The future of retail isnt what. Its who. Every retailer faces the challenge of finding and keeping skilled and qualified talent, and nowhere is that truer than on the front lines in distribution centers, stores and call centers. In fact, Bureau of Labor Statistics data shows that there were 600,000 unfilled jobs in retail in 2016.


In response to this challenge, the NRF Foundation brought together over 30 retailers, foundations and nonprofit groups to develop a new training and credentialing program, RISE Up, to help individuals regardless of educational background, economic means or age acquire the skills they need to succeed in the workforce and advance into promising retail careers.


RISE Up is an innovative, industry-led and -recognized solution designed to narrow the skills gap, reduce the time to hire and train entry-level associates, improve retention rates and decrease turnover.


RISE Up is available through Partner, RMA of Lynchburg and can also be used by retailers to train and advance existing employees. Participants can take the course in a classroom setting or the program can be brought to the business,  for added convenience,  and, upon completion of an online exam, receive their stackable and transferable credential.


With retail transforming every day, hands-on learning for entry-level job seekers will help the next generation of workers start stronger and go further than ever before.










RISE Up begins with Retail Industry Fundamentals, a 15-module training program and credential that prepares job seekers for positions in retail including distribution centers, stores and call centers and lays a foundation for lifelong growth. Subject areas cover retail tools and technology, customer service, inventory, retail math and interviewing transferable skills vital for professions inside and outside the industry.
